Contemplative Prayer 2019

Meets: 2nd Tuesday of each month at 11 am in St Martin's and on the 4th Thursday at 8 pm at 29, Hereford Cl;ose, Epsom

The aim of the Group is to teach and to practise 'listening prayer'. The method used is that set out by the Fellowship of Contemplative Prayer. The meetings are almost always in the Church itself. Anyone who would like an hour or so of led meditation or contemplation and silence based on one of the sayings of God from the Old Testament or one of Jesus in the New Testament is very welcome.

Tuesday, November 12th, In St Martin's Church at 11 am and Thursday, November 28th, at 29, Hereford Close, at 8 pm.  The contemplation is based on a 'saying' - this month from Ezekiel 39.21 - 'I will display my glory among the nations'.  Here our spirituality connects with everyday life, the glory of God with our struggle in the midst of the world.  In their exile, the people of Israel found that they were in the midst of a very alien world and yet it was there they had to find God himself.

The Group meets just once for Advent in December - Tuesday, 10th December, at 11 am in St Martin's Church to consider 2 Corinthians 4.6 'Out of Darkness let light shine'.  Light is one of the first gifts of God to the world as he created the universe.  Here St Paul quotes the words of God in his letter sharing with his readers something of the darkness of our world but also reminding us of the Good News that the Light of Christ shines out of the darkness.  Please note that we are meeting on the 2nd Tuesday in December as usual in Church - and there is no meeting on the 4th Thursday.
